Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does the Wooden Pickle Making set include?
One seated figure with a mortar bowl of pickle mix and a pestle-like tool, along with three lidded storage jars on the same base.
2. Is this doll made using Etikoppaka craft?
Yes. It is made using the Etikoppaka Bommalu technique, a turned-wood lacquer craft from Andhra Pradesh where wood is shaped on a lathe and finished with hand-painted color.
3. How is this different from Zishta's other household-scene dolls, like the Buttermilk Maker or Weaver?
All of these are Etikoppaka household and trade-scene dolls of a similar size, but each shows a different activity. This one shows pickle making with a mortar and storage jars, while the others show buttermilk churning, weaving, a tea seller, a coconut seller and a potter. They're meant to be collected as separate pieces in a village-life doll set.
4. Are the jars fixed in place, or can they be rearranged?
They sit on the base as separate pieces, so they can be lifted off and arranged differently if you'd like.
5. Is this doll safe to keep around young children?
It's best kept as a display piece rather than a plaything, since the small painted pieces aren't meant for handling by young children.
